We were told to do a presentation in any topic of our choosing for our English class. To make things fun in college, I was thinking about presenting something fresh and fun! :D
At first, i thought that i could easily do this topic with ease, I've never been so wrong in my life.
I was basically jumping into the pool without a life-jacket.
In the end, I managed to compile a pack of information worthy of sharing with you guys!
Enjoy!
:)
What is Love?
- Emotional physical and or spiritual response to what makes you feel good.
- Love, to me, is not an emotion… It’s more of a promise. Love is a promise that you make. When you say you love someone, you’re saying that you will be there for that person and take care of them when they are in need. You’re promising that that weather you have had a bad day, you will still try to make the person you love happy. Love is a whole lot of promises.
- Love is a farce.
- Love is at any time when you think you have reached the bottom, in your relationship , to try again, and again, and again.
- Love is when two people connect on a deeply affectionate, passionate, and spiritual level. It's when two people can have sex that makes you as a couple feel like you have become one with each other. Love is loyalty, it's when you are with someone that would make you never want anybody else.
With so many definition of Love, have you ever stopped for a second to think about the Science in Love?
Did you ever notice in a way, Love is a mysterious yet natural emotion in us and it must have to do something with our inside chemistry to one another?
Today, i'm going to elaborate more on a certain topics that are related to one another.
In order to get started, firstly i need to inform you the basic physical signs when you are falling in Love (:
Physical Sign
There are several factors that can be an indication when someone managed to trigger your inside.
- Your Hormones Gone Wild
- You Wake Up And Go To Sleep Thinking Of Someone Other Than Yourself
- You Smile When You're Alone
- You Suddenly Care More About Your Appearance
- You Become A Little Bit Obsessive
A few factors had been laid out which can be the basic foundation to see if you are falling in Love. The next time you experienced any of this symptoms then it must be true. :)
The next one i'm going to talk about is..
Ancient Greek's Definition of Love
First of all, what is the difference between when i say " I Love Someone", "I Love My Family" and "I Love my Best Friends"? The word Love are being used for the same meaning yet different level of Love? Basically, this complicated situation are being managed and handled by categorizing them to several words. Those Ancient Greeks are AWESOME!!
Eros
As you can see the tension of Love is real between the girl and the huge Pizza! In a way, it can perfectly illustrate the concept of "EROS", named after the Greek god of Love (the Romans called him Cupid) and it is used to express sexual Love or the feelings of arousal that are shared between people who are physically attracted to one another, Eros is not a bad thing, but it is also not a good thing. *wink*
Philia
The second variety of Love is Philia. This word speaks of the warm affection shared between friends. Philia is often associated with the heart (metaphorically speaking). We feel Love for our friends, obviously not in an erotic sense, but in the sense of being kind and affectionate. However Philia is not felt between people who are at enmity (Deep rooted hatred) with one another. We can feel Philia toward friends but not toward people whom we dislike or hate.
Ludus
This was the Greeks' idea of Playful Love, which can be referred to the affection between children or young loves. Basically, it's like the flirting and teasing in the early stage of relationship.
Storge
The type of Love you have for a dependent. It is commonly being called as "Motherly Love", which embodied the Love between parents and their children.
Pragma
Another Greek's Love was the mature love known as Pragma. This was the deep understanding that developed between long-married couples. Pragma was about making compromises to help maintain the relationship work over time, and showing patience and tolerance.
I really do hope you are still following this. x
Next up, i'm going to discuss about..
The Three Stages of Falling in Love (Scientifically)
All the information below are being collected and summarized from a Case Study on "Science Behind Love" conducted at the Rutgers University in United States.
There are three stages of falling in Love:
- Lust
- Attraction
- Attachment
Lust
Lust is said to be the initial stage of getting in Love. The feeling of lust is basically backed up by the sexual hormones within the body, the "Oestrogen and Testosterone" are the two basic types of hormones present equally within Men and Women's body. This hormones have the ability to excites the feeling of lust within the brain. When this happens a process called "Limbic Process" occur in the brain, it's a response to lust that have health-promoting and stress-reducing potential. In addition, Lust, Love and pleasure ensure the endurance of mankind through mating. The mating process is a discrete inter-related process initiating attraction. (:
Attraction
The second stage of acquiring Love is attraction. This phase is said to be one of the beautiful moment of life. This is the phase when a person actually starts to feel the Love. Scientifically, it has been concluded in the study that there are three more sub-stages of attraction that portray drastic changes over the individual's personality.
Scientist have elaborated that initial symptoms such as;
- Stress response
- Attitude Reaction
...are developed toward someone. It has been specified in the study that any person who falls in love will acquire a slight or drastic change in the above factors. For this reason, whenever you bumped into your crush, your sense decline, your heart beats like a drum and so on..blame all this on Adrenaline.
To make things interesting by following the theoretical research, a physical experiment was also conducted to prove the veracity of physical evidence for Dopamine. The brains of a new couple struck with Love were observed using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. (The one you see in the movie where the doctors put a sticky wire on the patients forehead *I Think*)
It was genuinely shocking to discover the minds of both Male and Female have large spikes of Neurotransmitter Dopamine, a chemical that stimulate the feelings of pleasure within the body. The couple furthermore revealed the following facts which are, the surge of energy and they tend to slept less compare to before, must be the Love with extra caffeine. ha ha ha.
Last but not the least, Serotonin can also be found which is the important chemicals involved for the exciting feelings of Love. Serotonin basically diverts your minds and bounds you to think about your lover and nothing else.
Attachment
When a couple passes through the above two stage of Love successfully, the time of bonding with each other becomes powerful. Attachment is a bond helping the couple to take their relationship to the advanced levels. While investigating the "Attachments Factors", scientist discovered two sub-stages involved.
The first one is Oxytocin, also known as the "Cuddle Hormone", is one of the most powerful hormones released equally by men and women, especially during orgasm. Oxytocin formulates the depth of Love and focus the attachment in partners.
The next one is Vasopressin, known as an anti-diuretic. It performs its operation along with the kidney, therefore controlling thirst. This hormone is released in major quantity quickly after sex.
As of right now, we basically covered almost all the basic and scientific stuffs relating to Love. To make things interesting, now, i'm about to discuss on how you can keep the Love strong and healthy.
- Relax and let yourself get carried away by the joy of being with someone special (:
- it's important to be honest with and trust each other
- Physical intimacy should ONLY be with the consent of both parties involved, never forced or one sided!
- Remember! you may be in love, but you both have a life! take time out away from your loved one to be with friends and family. A bit distance could surely be good for the relationship.
- Lastly, you should be able to talk about your feeling and emotion freely with your loves ones without having to worry about being judge or yelled at
This being said, there are no hard and fast rules that apply to relationship, more so teenage relationship. These are just some general pointer to help keep your relationship positive and healthy!
I do hope by reading all this, you'll manage to absorb some of the information and make use of it in a way that is beneficial to yourself, everyone deserve to be Love and experience the beauty of it :)
oh! wish me luck for the presentation tomorrow.
